About Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve
Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve offers a quiet alternative to the more crowded Muir Woods, showcasing the primeval beauty of Northern California's temperate rainforest. Visitors can wander through groves of towering trees that predate the modern era, feeling the profound stillness of the forest floor. The reserve features well-maintained trails ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes into the surrounding hills. It serves as a living laboratory for conservation and a testament to the endurance of these ancient giants.

"Lovely place to hike with a mix of dense redwood forests and mountain top views! We did a 7 mile loop featuring the east ridge trail (expect lots of incline! 1500ft at least and a mix of redwoods + grassy hill kind of terrain) connecting to the pool ridge trail (mostly shaded by the trees, decline) and then taking discovery trail (highly accessible, flat redwood grove) back to the entrance. At the time of our visit the trail to the waterfall was closed for construction but we could still hear the water. The park is pretty large so it never felt too crowded even though we passed many people on trails. Like other reviewers have mentioned you can park outside the gate and just walk in to avoid the parking fee if you wish."
